Traveling with Teenagers

Planning the Perfect Family Vacation

traveling-with-teenagers

Ah, the joys of traveling with teenagers. I think we all pay for our raising at this point in our lives. Teenagers are sometimes hard to please. They are interested romantic partners for the most part and this dominates the majority of their thought life. It’s not ideal to leave them at home all Summer because all your food will be gone and vegging out is not good for anyone to do for an extended period of time. I recommend themed vacations that have 50% fun and 50% educational value. Keeping the brain stimulated and engaged is the key to keeping them ready for the school year to come. The following vacation plans are recommendations that have both fun and educational value to them and would make an excellent family destination.

Washington DC

Washington DC is a good place to visit after your child has learned Civics or US Government which in most states is around the 9th grade. There is no much to do and see in Washington DC that you can fill a two week trip. The most important places to visit are the Capital, the National Mall, all the Monuments, the Smithsonian Museums, Grand Central Station, and any other museum that you wish. Now the Smithsonian Museum may not initially sound interesting but they are interactive and fun. I’m not a fan of museums and I enjoyed my visits to the museums. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. Encourage your child to find a topic at one of the museums that they want to know more about and make a purchase at the gift store to help them learn. Tucked away in Huntsville, Alabama is a week of learning disguised with fun and adventure. Your child can take park in this weeklong event and while you and your spouse travel to nearby Atlanta and enjoy the sights there. Space Camp is an experience that no child/teenager will ever forget. I went the summer after 9th grade, I was 15 and it was an experience that I’ll never forget and still remember to this day over a decade later. This camp can gain your child college credit in the Advanced Space Academy. Space Academy is 6 days long and costs $999.00. This cost pays for their food, lodging, and other materials. San Diego, California

San Diego California is a wonderful place to take your next vacation. There are many things to do in the area in addition to the wonderful beaches and ocean. This vacation location is a wonderful spot to get away enjoy some attractions like Sea World and the Zoo; and then relax on the beach and allow everyone to enjoy the ocean. Seeing the ocean and being able to swim in it is something that no one forgets. I haven’t forgotten the first time I saw the ocean. It makes an indelible impression on a child and it’s a perfect bonding experience for the family. The beautiful surroundings will lend themselves to incredible pictures that you will treasure forever. If there is something at the zoo or Sea World that piques interest invest some time and a little money in exploring that interest while on vacation. Your child/teenager will thank you. Texas Road Trip

One of the most memorable vacations my family took was a road trip to and around Texas. It’s especially great for teenagers because they can help with the driving. If driving to Texas is too far then upon your arrival in Texas rent a car and have a road trip in Texas. The first stop is Dallas. Dallas is a part of the United States that everyone should see at least once. There are several things to do in Dallas. One of the most interesting things is the museum that has been created about President John F Kennedy and his assignation. There are numerous sights to see in Dallas including a multistory mall called the Galleria. The next stop should be San Antonio. While in San Antonio be sure to visit the River walk and the Alamo. The final stop should be Padre Island where you can swim in the Gulf of Mexico, just be careful for the jelly fish specifically the Man of War types, they are prevalent in the area. The following websites will aid you in planning your trip.

Orlando, Florida

Orlando is a guaranteed fun trip for the whole family. There are so many things to see and do while there that you can spend two weeks trying to do it all. The varied amusement parks offer various opportunities for educational exploration either on the trip or back at home. There are many theme or amusement parks such as Sea World, Universal Studios, and Disney World that you can explore as a family. Regardless of what your teenager says you are never too old for Disney World and you are never too old to pose for a picture with Mickey Mouse. Enjoy being a kid again with your kids and let the smiles relax you. Visit the following website to help make your plans for your trip, http://www.orlandoinfo.com.
