It is a New Year and you have done a lot of traveling. Reflecting back on your travels and packing experiences you see how you could have been done better and you cringe thinking about how you will pack for your next trip in 2007. Here are some travel packing suggestions to help you achieve a New Year’s goal of a smoother less bumpy travel experience in 2007.
Roll your socks, underwear and any towels into a ball. This will help leave some clothing space in your suitcase in case you buy some new clothing items on your trip. Don’t forget your swimsuit or gym clothes. Most nice hotels offer a gym or pool. In Washington DC you can hike, bike or jog the trail that borders the Potomac River.
To help to not forget your essential items, make a list of all the items you need and check them off as you pack them.
Wear a fanny pack with your essential information in it.
When you are going through airport security with your fanny pack, wear leggings and a tee shirt and flip-flops to the airport. The less you wear the faster you pass through airport security. You can always change in the bathroom afterwords.
Talking about the bathroom don’t weight your bag with lotion and toothpaste. These are items you can buy when you get your destination. Also, items like perfume or lotions can spill in your suitcase even if you stick them in your shoes. Baggage gets thrown around all the time in the airport by baggage carriers.
As you limit your space in your suitcase by packing less toiletries items try and bring a only a week worth of clothes matter how long your trip. Wear the same jeans twice with different accessories or tops. You can find a laundry to wash during the week. Especially if you rent someone apartment where may get to use the building laundry room.
Also, research what the people wear in the area you are going are wearing in everyday attire. Just because in NYC everybody wears all black, all the time, doesn’t mean everybody else does.
Also, how about sharing one large suitcase with your traveling companion so there is less of a chance of lost luggage.
Take a picture of all your bag contents so you have an evidence of what is inside your suitcase if the airport loses your luggage. Even put some distinctive stickers on the outside of the luggage to distinguish yours from other similar bag on the luggage wheel
As you packing think about the reading materials you bring. Light romance books work if you are visiting a beach. Don’t bring a new author you never read, for the long travel trip, since you don’t if you will like the author to finish the book. Even bring two paperbacks so you have a book backup in cause one story doesn’t hold your interest. Take advantage of your long European flight to read stories about the culture you going to visit. For example, why not read some French authors if you are going to France. Also, listen to your language trips to help you learn new words before you get to your travel destination.
When you are on the plane plan to carry on some cereal bars and trail mix to tied you over on the long trip. Before you leave for your trip, you should try to eat some eggs or oats, which will hold your hunger for a good portion of the day.
Thinking of food, even when you off traveling and seeing the sites, take some muffins or fruit from the hotel breakfast buffet to have handy to snack on as you walk around. Always have extra snacks, like the cereal bar you brought for the plane trip, on hand especially when you are traveling with young kids.
